House rules of the Foundation
Adopting the grave of a fallen liberator at the American Cemetery means:
- visiting the grave; the person adopting the grave is the one who determines the frequency of visits.
- laying flowers at the grave on special days and/or special occasions (e.g. Memorial Day or during Christmas); you can find the green plastic vases intended for this purpose near the Visitors Hall. Due to the demands made by maintenance activities, the only type of decoration considered acceptable consists of cut flowers.
- the cemetery is open every day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. with the exception of the first day of Christmas and New Year's Day. On 4 May (Dutch Remembrance Day), the cemetery is also open in the evening.
The persons adopting graves receive a certificate containing the personal information regarding the liberator known to the Foundation and the cemetery.
A voluntary contribution, with a minimum of €5 per grave adopted, is requested to cover the costs of purchasing vases and providing the certificate. The contribution can be remitted to account number 15 88 20 045 in the name of: Stichting Adoptie Graven Amerikaanse Begraafplaats Margraten (Foundation for Adopting Graves at the American Cemetery of Margraten). (opmerking vertaler: voor het internationale publiek moet hier wel een IBAN-nummer worden vermeld om geld over te kunnen maken)
If you are fortunate enough to be able to support the Foundation with a larger sum, then your contribution will of course be accepted with a great deal of appreciation..
The Foundation requests all persons adopting graves to inform the Secretariat of any changes in information which are relevant to updating the adoption registry, such as address changes or death notices. Parents who transfer their adoption activities to their children are also requested to inform the Foundation of any such transfers.
